How much does a tombstone cost?

With us, from R3 900 to R35 300, with the engraving and installation included. Three things decide where yours falls: the kind of stone your cemetery allows, the granite, and whether it covers the whole grave. Every design, in every granite, has its price on the site.

The kind of stone your cemetery allows

It decides the price more than anything else, and it is usually decided for you, by the section of the cemetery the grave is in.

A lawn section

Usually only a marker that lies flat or low may go on the grave, so the lawn can be mown. A flat marker is from R3 900, a bevel marker from R5 900.

A traditional section

A headstone may stand at the head of the grave, from R9 400, or a full tombstone may cover it, from R18 900.

Every cemetery sets its own sizes and kinds. We check yours before anything is carved.

The same design costs more in some granites than others, by up to R2 400. Here is an arch upright in each.

Short notice: An unveiling less than four weeks away adds 25% to the stone. The soonest it can be is two weeks away.

Wherever you buy a tombstone, ask these six things first. A stone is paid for long before it is seen at the grave, and these are what keep a family safe.

Installation is. Delivery is added by distance, from R800, and shown before you pay.

Will they check the cemetery's rules?

How much does a tombstone cost in South Africa?

Ours cost from R3 900 for a flat grave marker to R35 300 for the largest full tombstone, with the engraving and installation included. Upright headstones start at R9 400 and full tombstones at R18 900.

What decides the price of a tombstone?

Three things: the kind of stone (a marker, a headstone or a full tombstone, usually set by the section of the cemetery), the granite, and whether it has a slab over the whole grave.

Why do the granites cost different amounts?

Some granites cost more to quarry and cut. Rustenburg Grey adds nothing to a design's price; the others add between R900 and R2 400.

Can I pay for a tombstone monthly?

Yes, on lay-by: over up to 12 months with no interest, paid off before the unveiling. R3 900 over 12 months is R325 a month.

Is delivery included?

Installation is included in every price. Delivery is added by how far the cemetery is, from R800, and shown before you pay.
